On October 29, the second annual 123 Heifer Sale and Social was hosted at Deer Creek Farm. Among the 80 people enjoying the beautiful weather, excellent BBQ, open bar and entertainment were a number of longhorn breeders and their families. The sale featured 67 heifers for sale in pens of $1000, $2000, $3000 and a new $5000 platinum pen. 24 heifers were purchased for $51,000, an average of $2100 each. Besides providing an opportunity to see a number of fine heifers, the event afforded breeders the chance to visit with their fellow longhorn enthusiasts in our party barn where lots of fun was had. Dillon Fairchild threw a bulls eye on the Deer Creek dartboard and took home a very nice bull calf as a prize. Among those attending the sale were Bob and Pam Loomis, Steve and Renee Azinger, Wes and Carol Chancy, Joe Graddy, Randy and Jamie Briscoe and Richard Filip. This kind of event, promoting good will and camaraderie amongst breeders, makes raising Texas longhorns fun!
